The Vietnam e-visa is the way many of you are going to go when visiting Vietnam. It will give you a 90-day pass to enjoy Vietnam (it was previously only 30 days!), and is available to nearly all nationalities. Note that some countries don’t even need the e-visa – check out our visa guide here.
Applying for a Vietnamese e-visa is pretty straightforward, and you can do it entirely online. Here is how to apply:
- Step 1: Prepare Required Documents
- Step 2: Visit the Official Vietnam E-Visa Portal
- Step 3: Complete the Application Form
- Step 4: Pay the Vietnam E-Visa Fee
- Step 5: Wait for Processing

- Step 7: Print and Use Your Vietnam E-Visa
- Key Information About the Vietnam E-Visa
Step 1: Prepare Required Documents
Before you begin the application, make sure you have the following:
- Passport: Your passport must be valid for at least 6 months from your date of entry into Vietnam.
- Digital Passport Photo: A clear photo in .jpg format, typically 4×6 cm (you will have to upload this during the application).
- Scanned Copy of Passport: The personal details page of your passport in .jpg format.
- Payment Method: A credit or debit card to pay the application fee ($25 USD).
Step 2: Visit the Official Vietnam E-Visa Portal
Go to the official Vietnamese government’s e-visa website: https://evisa.gov.vn/
IMPORTANT – this is the only official website out there for getting an e-visa, please ignore many of the scammy websites out there running under different URLs – also note that the e-visa portal was recently updated from this old classic, which some outdated websites are probably still linking to: evisa.xuatnhapcanh.gov.vn

Step 3: Complete the Application Form
- Access the application form by selecting “Apply now” on the homepage. You’ll also have to scroll through the declaration list to confirm you’re good to go. For example, the list also includes all the relevant entry ports into Vietnam – make sure your intended entry point is on the list!
- Upload your documents:
- Upload your passport scan and the digital passport photo as required.
- Fill out all the required personal details including:
- Your full name (as it appears on your passport).
- Date of birth, nationality, passport number, passport issue/expiry dates.
- Travel details: Arrival and exit dates, entry point (airport or land border), and purpose of visit.
- Choose your entry port into Vietnam (airports or land border crossings).
- Review all information carefully before submitting.
Step 4: Pay the Vietnam E-Visa Fee
The application fee is $25 USD (single-entry) or $50 USD (multiple-entry) and is non-refundable, even if the visa is denied.
Payment is done online via a secure payment system using a credit or debit card.
Step 5: Wait for Processing
Processing usually takes about 3 working days, though it can take longer during busy periods or holidays.
You will be given a registration code upon successful submission. Save this code, as you will need it to check the status of your visa application.
Step 6: Check Your Vietnam E-Visa Status
- After 3 working days, go back to the same official e-visa website: https://evisa.gov.vn/
- Select “Check E-Visa Result” and enter your registration code, email, and personal details.
- If approved, you will be able to download and print your e-visa directly from the site.
Step 7: Print and Use Your Vietnam E-Visa
Print out the approved e-visa and bring it with you when you travel to Vietnam. You’ll need to present your e-visa along with your passport upon arrival at your chosen entry point in Vietnam (see the list below).
