Whenever I make it to Hanoi and the bustling Old Quarter, one of my fave places to eat is at Don Duck!
Located in the north-western end of the Old Quarter, I first discovered this little gem after a quick Google map search when staying nearby (they have since moved but the map is updated!). The sheer volume of good reviews convinced me to give it a try, and after three visits, I have to say, those reviews are fully justified!
If you love your duck, this is a great place to try, with full roasted ducks to enjoy, as well as a Pho-like duck soup, and amazing duck spring rolls.
Owner Kiem is keen to please and will sit and talk with customers to ensure all is well, as well as explain all about how he buys and cooks his duck dishes. He is attentive and aims to please. In my opinion, he pleases, and quite rightly justifies himself as a bit of a legend!
Not the cheapest meals in town, but this great duck restaurant is surely one to add to the Hanoi checklist. Sit downstairs at street level to enjoy the passing Hanoi traffic, or head indoors for a quiet, air-conditioned meal, the choice is yours.
And if you’re nor 100% convinced by what I have to say, even the pros at Michelin love this place:
Bliss for duck lovers! This eatery in the bustling Old Quarter conjures up almost every conceivable form of your favourite poultry. For an authentic local taste, try the duck phở noodle soup. For a variation of the Chinese classic, order the grilled à la Peking duck or enjoy duck in hotpots, spring rolls, or even deep-fried and tossed in a sweet and sour sauce. Tasty food, a casual vibe and reasonable prices make this place a firm favourite.
