No. 13 Restaurant, District 2, Saigon (Vietnamese food to savor!)

OK, so if fine Vietnamese food is what you’re after, head over to the excellently located Number 13 restaurant in District 2, right on Saigon River!

It’s a bit of a ride out of town (if you’re in District 1 or 3), but when you catch a Grab you’ll find it’s relatively cheap coming back before/after rush hour. The location more than makes up for the distance, especially if you can grab a riverside table.

Famous for their Banh Khot (Vietnamese mini rice pancakes, topped with shrimp, wrapped in lettuce leaf (the wrapping bit you do) and eaten with herbs), I’ve also tried some of their excellently tender Thit Kho Trung (caramelized pork and eggs), and Thit Nuong (grilled pork), and have to say, was quietly impressed.

I was here with two Vietnamese friends, and together we ate a number of portions, had 4-5 beers between us, and still came home with change from a million VND (just to put it in comparison, you can buy one beefsteak at the adjacent The Deck restaurant for a million…).

Recommended (though their lack of English speaking staff and huge menu might mean you’ll need a local Vietnamese friend to help you out)
