If you’re thinking of using VietJet for domestic Vietnam flights AND love your sanity, I’d say No.
If you love a bargain, I’d say Maybe.
But if you just want to get to your next destination within Vietnam with minimal fuss, minimal delay, and minimal stress, I’d say go with one of the pricier options, such as Vietnam Airlines.
There are countless tales of travelers facing delays, as well as an over strict implementation of the permitted carry-on bag weight. It seems that just an extra kilo will mean an additional charge, and the check-in agents are pretty damn unforgiving…
I’ll be completely honest, I have flown VietJet a couple of times, and wasn’t too disappointed. I flew the main Hanoi – Saigon route, and was pleasantly surprised to have a delay-free, relatively painless experience! So, there’s always the chance you’ll get lucky too. A slim chance…ha ha! The one thing that does seem to save VietJet flights is their international routes, where they can’t get away with their attitude they seem to have adopted for Vietnam flights.
So, yes, the endless online tales of VietJet delays and issues have typically convinced me to spend that little bit extra – and we’re typically talking about a $30-40 difference only for the longer flights – especially when traveling with the wife. There are countless ways to travel on a budget in Vietnam, but cheaping out on the flights isn’t always the smartest option…
