Halong Bay is one of the absolute must-sees in Vietnam and probably near the very top of your own Vietnam wishlist. But not everyone is familiar with its location, and some even miss out on a visit to this Vietnam stunner because they weren’t aware it’s in the far north.
So, where exactly is Halong Bay in Vietnam?
As we mentioned, Halong Bay (or Ha Long Bay, with the additional space) is located in the far north of Vietnam, some four hours drive east of the capital, Hanoi.
It’s easy to get to, either via a tour from Hanoi, or via the Noi Bai Hanoi airport if you’re heading straight to Halong Bay upon arriving in Vietnam (there are now also international flights to/from the even closer Cat Bi International Airport in Haiphong and the even closer airport at Van Don, which opened in December 2018 and is just some 50km away from the marina at Halong Bay – note that you should even be able to get a free bus ticket from Van Don to Halong Bay).
